What is Speech Pathology?

Speech Pathology (also known as Speech Therapy) supports individuals who experience challenges with communication.

For young children, this includes learning to speak clearly, using age-appropriate grammar, forming sentences, sequencing ideas, and understanding and following complex instructions.

As children grow, speech therapy can assist with more advanced skills such as writing, comprehension, and social communication.

Speech Pathologists also work with individuals who stutter, have voice disorders, or who require support communicating without spoken language. This may involve the use of sign language, visual supports, or communication technology (e.g. speech-generating apps).

In addition, speech therapy can help with feeding challenges and oral motor coordination — supporting safe and effective eating and drinking.

Session Structure and Billing Information

Allied Health Assistant sessions and sessions with qualified therapists are 30 minutes in duration.

For NDIS-funded sessions, billing is based on a 1-hour service. This includes 45 minutes of direct, face-to-face therapy and 15 minutes allocated to essential documentation and administrative tasks, as required under NDIS guidelines.

In some cases, your child’s school or preschool may fund on-site therapy services. For individually billed sessions, we will work with families to ensure sessions are scheduled efficiently and in line with our service delivery model.
