Early Intervention

Key Workers

What is a Key Worker?

  • A Key Worker is an early childhood intervention professional. They can be from one of the following disciplines: Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist, Early Childhood Educator, Family Support Worker or Behaviour Specialist. A Key Worker is selected who will best support your overall needs.

  • When your child has a delay or disability this can involve many parts of their development. A Key Worker can support you in all areas of your child’s development so that you can prioritise what is most important for your child.

  • The role of the Key Worker can reduce some family stresses by focusing on key areas that are important for families. These include:

    • Information and advice to navigate services and access resources

    • Opportunities to identify and help your needs in parenting

    • Advocacy for your child and family

    • Co-ordinating your child’s services

    • Emotional support

    • Support in meeting with an NDIS planner

    • Guidance to make informed decisions about your child’s development

    • Assistance in developing goals with you for your child which focus on your family’s priorities

    • Support to access local community services and activities, e.g. early childhood education services, school, shopping centre, local park, sports groups

    • Coaching and mentoring to implement strategies and techniques for your child’s development into daily routines

    • Support to co-ordinate all of services who currently support your child and family

Working Together to Support Your Child's Development

At Necessity Kids, we believe that every family deserves a trusted professional who can guide and support them through their child’s developmental journey. Our Key Workers — experienced allied health professionals and early childhood educators — provide a central point of contact for your family. They collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Early Childhood Educators, Allied Health Assistants, and other external service providers.

Our approach is holistic and family-centred. Your Key Worker will share practical strategies, ideas, and techniques that are tailored to your child’s unique needs and can be embedded into your everyday routines at home.

We also understand the importance of coordinated care. Your Key Worker will work alongside any existing professionals already supporting your child — including those from childcare, preschool, school settings, community programs, private therapists, and medical teams — to ensure a consistent and cohesive approach.

At Necessity Kids, we value your role as the expert on your child. Together, we will work towards the goals that matter most to your family, delivering supports in a way that is flexible, collaborative, and meaningful.

What is our early intervention program?

At Necessity Kids, we understand the importance of early intervention and the positive impact it can have on a child's development. Our team of experienced professionals work together to provide individualised services to children and their families.

We utilise specialised techniques and strategies to support a child's needs and goals, while also working closely with families to incorporate these into everyday routines. Additionally, we collaborate with other professionals and community resources to ensure that all of a child's needs are being met.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive support and guidance to help children reach their full potential, as early as possible. We understand that every family is unique and we strive to respect and incorporate your knowledge, skills, and beliefs into all interventions for your child.

What does a session look like?

Our team of Early Childhood Intervention Practitioners are here to help you and your child navigate the early years of development. We understand that a diagnosis or noticing delays in development can be overwhelming, which is why we are here to offer support and guidance.

Our practitioners will assess your child's overall development and create tailored goals to improve play skills, behaviour, social interactions, cognitive development, motor skills, and language. We will work closely with you and other professionals to ensure that your child is receiving all the necessary resources and programs.

During our consultations, we will provide advice and coaching on how to best support your child in everyday routines such as bath time, meal times and engaging in community activities.

We are here to support you and your child in nurturing their development, building skills and addressing any behaviour difficulties.
